Minecraft Multiplayer on Nintendo Switch: Player Limits and Requirements

Nintendo lists three multiplayer configurations for Minecraft on Nintendo Switch:

| Mode | Player count | |---|---:| | One console | 1–4 | | Local wireless | 2–8 | | Online | 2–8 |

Online play

Online features require a Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account.

Split-screen play

Each split-screen participant needs a controller. To play split-screen without Nintendo Switch Online memberships, turn off the world's Multiplayer game setting. If that setting remains enabled, every split-screen player needs an active membership.

Cross-platform play

The Nintendo Switch version is Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. Bedrock supports cross-play across Windows 10 and 11, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices.

Nintendo states that signing in with a free Microsoft account enables Switch players to play with people using non-Nintendo devices.
